Reflect
On September 10, 2001, Father Mychal Judge, OFM, offered his last homily at the rededication blessing of Engine 73 Ladder 42 in the Bronx. He said: “You do what God has called you to do. You show up, you put one foot in front of another, you get on that rig, you go out to do the job, which is a mystery and a surprise. You have no idea when you get on that rig, no matter how big the call, no matter how small, you have no idea what God’s calling you to, but he needs you. He needs me. He needs all of us.” The next day, Father Mychal was listed as the first official casualty of the September 11 terrorist attack. He lost his life just after he anointed a firefighter.
Pray
Jesus,
You have a plan and purpose for every single one of your children.
You have called me to a unique path and plan that only I can fulfill.
You need me in your plan of salvation for this world.
Show me what to do and fill me with bravery to answer your call—
wherever you may send me.
Amen.
