Saturday of the Fifth Week of Lent
April 13, 2019
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Jeremiah 31:10, 11-12abcd, 13
Jesus moves forward toward suffering and death, yet God will look after Him. He will not be abandoned–not simply left to the hand of His enemies. Jesus’ sufferings and death will be real. If that were not so, there would be no meaning in them. At the same time they are not ultimate–not the last word.
The last word in the story of Jesus will be deliverance on the part of the Father. The Father will look after His beloved Son as a shepherd guards his flock.
We, too, face suffering. We deal with dangers and threats. But they are not the last word. God promises to bring us also to safety. “The Lord will guard us, as a shepherd guards his flock.”
