Pope St. John Paul II remarked that “Love between man and woman cannot be built without sacrifices and self-denial.” This is the nature of all Christian love. It is the model of love shown on the cross, which proved that resurrection and eternal life springs forth from such selfless love.
Pray
Gentle Shepherd, on the cross you proved your great love
for us and for the Father.
By your self-denial, we have been redeemed.
In our dying of self, we have been reborn.
May married couples witness to this great love.
By loving the Father and the other in this way,
may their marriage attest to your saving power.
Amen.
Act
Think of a couple you know and pray for them today. Ask that the Lord remove any barriers of selfishness and ego, so that they may grow closer to God and to one another.
